Join LGBTQ Outdoors for a two-night backpacking trip in the Indian Peaks Wilderness from Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. We’ll meet at 5:00 PM on Friday evening in Boulder and then drive about 1.5 hours to the Hessie Trailhead area near Nederland before hiking roughly 2 miles into Lost Lake for our first night of camping. On Saturday, we’ll continue about 5 miles to Devil’s Thumb Lake, where we’ll camp for our second night. On Sunday, we’ll complete a longer final day of about 9.7 miles, hiking over Devil’s Thumb Pass and past King Lake before returning to the trailhead.
This trip is best suited for participants who are comfortable carrying overnight gear and hiking multiple days in mountain terrain. Expect alpine lakes, mountain views, high-country camping, and a rewarding weekend outdoors in community. Elevation gain will be about 3,200ft total. Participants should be prepared for changing weather, chilly overnight temperatures, and a longer, more strenuous final day on trail. There will also be a required Zoom gear check before the trip so we can review equipment, answer questions, and help everyone arrive prepared.
