Join us and learn to paddleboard on Umbagog Lake.

We will launch directly from Umbagog Lake State Park, located on the Maine–New Hampshire border near Errol, New Hampshire, onto the broad, calm waters of Umbagog Lake. The lake is shallow in many areas, largely undeveloped, and known for minimal boat traffic, especially in the morning, which makes it an excellent setting for paddleboarding.

The name Umbagog comes from an Abenaki word meaning “shallow water.” Much of the lake averages about 10–15 feet deep, with deeper channels reaching 20–25 feet. The lake spans the Maine–New Hampshire border and sits within a large protected wilderness. Loons are common, bald eagles are frequently seen, and moose are often spotted feeding along the shoreline. Black bears, river otters, and beavers also inhabit the surrounding forest and wetlands, adding to the feeling of true North Woods paddling.

This beginner-friendly session is designed to help you feel confident, safe, and comfortable on the water — no experience required, and you don’t even need your own board. We'll cover: - Paddleboarding basics (gear, stance, safety) - How to fall off and how to get back on with ease - Progressions from sitting → kneeling → standing - Tips for balance, paddling technique, and staying relaxed on the board Whether you’re nervous or just never had the chance to try, this is your invitation to discover what paddleboarding is all about — in a supportive, encouraging environment.
