Hike, Grill & Play!

Ready to embrace the kid within? Join LGBTQ+ Outdoors and Out in Tech on Saturday, July 18th for the ultimate Summer Field Day! We are taking over the beautiful River Legacy Park in Arlington for a morning hike followed by a youth-style field day and cookout.

This is a totally FREE event, and kids, partners, allies, and pets (on leash) are all welcome to join the fun!

🌳 Part 1: The Morning Hike (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM)
We’ll start the day by exploring the "crown jewel" of Arlington’s park system. River Legacy Park is an urban oasis featuring over 1,030 acres of stunning hardwood forest, 400 species of wildlife, and winding trails along the Trinity River. We will hike either the North West Prairie and South Loops or the West Loop to Trammel Davis Road, spending about 2 hours enjoying the thick tree canopy before the summer heat sets in.

🍔 Part 2: Grill & PLAY! (11:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
After the hike, the real fun begin! We are throwing it back to our youth with an epic Field Day of games, lounging, dancing to music, eating, and interacting with each other! We’ll already have the grill fired up for hot dogs and hamburgers (potluck style for sides/drinks!), and spending the afternoon hanging out.

Come ready for:

Classic Field Day Games (Suggested): Potato sack races, 3-legged races, cornhole, frisbee, and ring toss! Have your own favorite field day games or outdoor yard games? Bring them along! Use linked google sheet to let us know what you'll bring!

Relaxing: Sun tanning, dancing to music, and chilling under the trees. Feel free to bring your own lawn chairs, pop-up canopies for extra shade, and personal ice chests!

Choose Your Own Adventure: Fishing, Biking, Playing, OH MY!
-> Bring your mountain bike to hit more of the famous DORBA trails, bring your fishing pole and gear for the fishing pond within eye-sight, or take the little ones to the custom T-Rex dinosaur playground just steps from our setup! Bathrooms are also just a short walk across the field from our set-up!

🕒 Timeline:

9:00 AM: Meet & Greet! (Meet at the Elm Grove Picnic Area Parking Lot. Look for our table and flag under the trees right off the road!)

9:30 AM: Hit the Trail for our 2-hour hike.

11:30 AM: Hike concludes. (Folks are welcome to head out, or stay for the cookout).

12:00 PM: The Grill gets fired up! Note: If you only want to come for the cookout and games, you are welcome to arrive at any time! Just make sure you check in with us when you get here. Use the Google sheet to let us know if you'd like to contribute to the cookout (Meats). You can also bring your own lunch if you prefer!

12:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Eat, play, dance, and relax!

5:00 PM: Official wrap-up and pack out.
