Want a reason to get outside and make a difference before Halloween festivities? Instead of filling up bags of candy, here's an opportunity to gather up bags of prairie seed!

Did you know that tallgrass prairie covered 2.1 million acres across Wisconsin prior to European colonization? Now, less than 0.1% of prairie remains across the state today. Environmental organizations such as the Aldo Leopold Foundation are dedicated to restoring prairie back to the landscape.

We will wander through a recently restored prairie and fill up bags and buckets with native plant seeds to be used in future prairie restoration. Seed collecting is a relaxing and rewarding way to be in the outdoors, and gives an opportunity to get up close with an often overlooked but beautiful and ecologically important landscape.

This will be an off trail experience in very tall grass. Please wear long pants and hiking boots or close-toed shoes.
