Come out and join the community on another fun hike in the woods! This time, we'll be visiting the lovely Dr. T. K. Lawless Park in Cass County, which is southwest Michigan's only certified dark sky park! We'll be embarking on a hike later in the day, to perhaps catch a glimpse of the sunset and the starry night sky, if Michigan's weather will allow us. This park stays open at night to allow for viewing, especially during cosmic events.
The park here encompasses 820 acres of forest, wetlands, and small lakes to encapsulate some of the best nature in southern Michigan. There are also many amenities here, such as a hill for tubing and sledding, fishing piers, an open field for activities, and 10 miles of mountain bike trails. Plan for a 1.5-2 hour hike, and then we may stick around to catch the night sky if it's not too overcast. I will give a guided tour of the stars if we can see any and perhaps also bring my telescope to look through.
