Join us for two nights of camping at the Double Lake Recreation Area located in the Sam Houston National Forest, just outside of Houston. This park was built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and offers camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, hiking, and mountain biking. We’ll arrive on Friday evening, set up camp, and hangout. Saturday we will go for a 5 to 6-mile hike (starting at 11am), hangout the rest of the afternoon/evening, then head out Sunday morning.

We had a group hike here recently in 2025. After receiving many requests to camp here, let’s make it happen! We’ll hike a different set of trails than the last time too, as this is a large park with many trails to offer.

If you don’t feel like camping and only want to join for the hike on Saturday, that is OK! Just reach out and let me know after you have registered.

The campsite is already reserved, but you will need to pay for your overnight vehicle pass upon arrival, which is $9 per night, per vehicle. If you are only joining for the hike, the entry fee is $7 per vehicle. THIS PARK ONLY ACCEPTS CASH AT THE GATE. THEY DO NOT PROVIDE CHANGE.

The week of the event, I will reach out to provide more details, such as: Campsite location, and place to meet for the hike.

Remember to bring everything needed to camp, including water, food, tent, sleeping bag, lights, etc….
